How To Use Our Photo Album

*** Open Photo Album in a new Window or Tab ***

Our online photo album of the SCV 2009 Reunion can be navigated by simply clicking on the images to either open an album or view individual images. You can also use various links to browse it as you wish, as described below... Feel free to download any image you wish - but please make sure you read the Disclaimer/Copyrights first!

We recommend using a current version of either Internet Explorer or FireFox to ensure the Album's features function correctly!

How to Navigate the Online Photo Album -

There are numerous ways to find your way around our online photo album - with the most obvious being just to click on the Image or Album you want to have it load into the viewing area.

From the Main Album, you'll find the photos organized into different "Sub-Albums", with each containing a set of Images and sometimes additional Sub-Albums as well. The Breadcrumb Trail of links directly under the logo shows where you currently are in the Album, and provides quick links "back up the trail". Also, clicking on the drop-down "Jump to Album" box will allow you to quickly choose an Album / Sub-Album to load into the viewing area.

Breadcrumb Trail and Quick Jump Box

There are often multiple pages of thumbnail images in the Albums! ... so make sure you don't miss the Page: 1 2 3 etc., as well as the Previous, Next, First, and Last links located above and below where the Images / Thumbnails are displayed!

Clicking on the Main-Title Logo (very top of each page) will reload the Main Page of the Album. Clicking on the first link in the Breadcrumb Trail (Reunion Site) will load the SCV 2009 Reunion Page (this site).

How to View Different Image Sizes -

When you click on an Image from an Album and it loads into the viewing area by itself, you will automatically be viewing the smallest version of the various sizes the photo is available in (apart from the thumbnail image displayed in the Album views). There are different ways to display the various sizes on the screen :

  • Clicking the Image itself will display the next-larger size available, then start over with the smallest once the largest has been displayed.
  • To the right of the Photo's Title is a block displaying the Date the photo was added, a "Size" drop-down box, and a link to the full-size version. Clicking on the drop-down box will display a list of the various sizes available - select the size you wish to display. Clicking on the link to the full-size version will immediately display the largest size available.

Please keep in mind that the majority of the landscape-oriented (horizontal) images are 1680x1050-resolution, which is larger than many computer screen-resolutions out there! Which size should you save? Make sure you read "How to Save Images" below for info on that!

How to Save Images -

There are several ways to save images :

  • From the Album View (where you see all the photos in the Album displayed as thumbnails), you can click on the "Item Actions" drop-down box below each thumbnail and choose the size you wish to save for that image - which will immediately cause your browser to download it. (Likewise you can add it to your "Cart" from this drop-down box ... more on that below.)
  • When a single image is being displayed in the viewing area, links for downloading all of the various sizes (including the thumbnail!) will appear in the left-hand sidebar, just below the "Jump to Album" drop-down box. Clicking any of these links will cause your browser to download that particular size immediately.
  • "The Old-Fashioned Way" ... display the size you want to save in the viewing area (for instance, use the drop-down box to the right of the image title to display the size you wish to save), then Right-Click on the Image itself and choose "Save Image As..." (or a similar command) from the context-menu that pops-up. (The way Grandma and Grandpa did it!)
  • If you just want to send the Image to someone by email, we can save you the trouble of downloading it and attaching it! See Sending Ecards below...

Which size image you choose to save should depend on what you intend to do with it... Basically, larger sizes are good for printing and sometimes for desktop wallpaper - but smaller images are better for sending by email and sharing with others.

Almost all of the landscape-oriented (horizontal) photos in the Albums are 1680x1050 pixels at their full-size. (A popular resolution for today's larger, wide-screen desktop and laptop monitors.) Most of these will likewise have smaller versions at 1024x640, 800x500, and 640x400 pixels. All of the portrait-oriented (vertical) photos are 1000-pixels in height and are usually cropped for an 8x10 format print.

If you intend to print the images, we recommend saving the largest version to use for this purpose!

Here are some additional tips...

  • Likewise remember that it's possible to save the thumbnail image too - it's the one on the list that's only 150-pixels wide/tall! This might be fine for your cell phone or keychain photo-viewer, but you may not find many other uses for these tiny images.
  • If you're saving them for your desktop, it helps to save the size closest to your screen resolution. If you're not sure about what resolution you're currently using, going to This site : (http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/) will tell you.
  • If you need an image editing & resizing tool, Irfanview is an excellent Image/Multimedia file utility that's FREE and highly recommended! Get it here : http://irfanview.com/

How to Use the "Shopping Cart" -

In the Album you'll see it's just called the "Cart", since there's no real "Shopping" involved. However, you can use this "Shopping Cart" to add any image you want - even whole Albums - and then "checkout" when you're ready with all the Images you placed in your Cart being added to a single ZIP file for you to download. There is no charge for this - and you do not have to sign-up for an account or give any information at all to use the Cart.

This gives you the convenience of downloading all the Images you wish to keep "at once" in a single ZIP file - but keep in mind that each Image in the Cart (and therefore the ZIP file) will be the LARGEST SIZE version of that Image available! (Usually 1680x1050.) Although every effort has been made to keep the file size of these JPG images down, adding lots of Images to your Cart will result in larger ZIP files to download! This is especially true of adding whole Albums to the Cart!! For instance: If you add the entire "Memorial Service" Album to the Cart (and nothing more), this will download a ZIP file containing the full-size versions of all 36 Images from the Memorial Service Album, and it will be about 16.5 Megabytes! If you've got a broadband connection, this will only take a few minutes - but dial-up users may want to keep the size of their Carts down to avoid long download times and possible frustrations!

If you decide to use the Cart, you'll find it's fairly self-explanatory... After you choose an Image or Album to add, the Cart page will come up to confirm that you want to add these photos. You can ignore the "Quantity" field (it's automatically set to "1" and you can leave it at that). If you've added an Image by accident you can check the box to "Remove" it. If you've got more images to add, just keep browsing the Albums from the Cart page - it will remember what you've added and keep track of the Images/Albums you've selected!

When you're ready to "checkout", simply look for the "Your Cart" section in the left-hand sidebar, and click on the "View Cart" link. Review your selections from the page that appears - then look for the "Cart Actions" drop-down box in the upper-right corner. Choose "Download in Zip" and click the GO button to start your download. (Likewise you can use this drop-down box to "Clear the Cart" if you'd like to make a new set of selections and it remembers ones you've already downloaded.)

How to Send Images as eCards from the Album -

If you find a photo you'd like to share with someone else by email, sending them as eCards from within the Albums is easy! Simply display the photo you want to send and look for the "Send as eCard" link which only appears in the side-bar when a single image is displayed. Clicking on this link will allow you to send the smallest (usually 640x400 - not the thumbnail) size of the image to the person/email address of your choice along with a short message to them. When they receive the eCard, this smaller image will also be a link back to this Image's Page in the Album - where they can download larger sizes if they wish.

You Can Use CoolIris With Our Albums! -

CoolIris is a great FREE browser plug-in for Internet Explorer, FireFox, and others that will allow you to view and browse the images in our Photo Album in a "Virtual 3D Wall" environment that's hard to explain - and really must been seen to be appreciated! Go to http://www.cooliris.com/product/ to learn more and get started.

(* Note that this feature works best with broadband connections when viewing large albums from the 'net - but it also works as an interesting way to view images stored on your local computer or network through your browser with no connection required!)
